This Network will NEVER apply for a trademark for "our name", will NEVER prohibit people from using the term "freecycler" as a verb (e.g., "happy
freecyclng"), will NEVER solicit payment from nor align ourselves with hazardous waste companies
that wish to white-wash their history of non-compliance, pollution and fines, will NEVER pay one dime to those of us humble VOLUNTEERS who will keep this a grassroots group with
the following focus:
Keep perfectly good, reusable items out of landfills, help those in need and develop a caring community of members worldwide.
You see, we believe that giving things away for free to those who can reuse them was not invented in May 2004 (creation of our groups here in Brevard County) nor May 2003 (creation of the first freecycle site), it came about the time man
separated from primates, as a species.
How, then, can one ever expect to 'trademark' giving?
What is this Freecycling thing about?
What is it and how does it work?
Whether you're looking to OFFER or SEEK an item,
Brevard County Freecycle is the place to do it...
furniture, clothes, appliances, computers, toys, a pile of dirt,
plants, books, used moving boxes, and all things in between.
Our goal is to reduce waste by connecting people who would
otherwise throw away unwanted items with others seeking
those same items.
Your chance to clear out your clutter, help a neighbour and save the planet... all at the same time!
Brevard Freecycle helps us all recycle items that we do not wish to sell, but maybe someone out there might have a use for them. This can be anything from jam jars to crystal glasses, baby items, to greenhouses!
No item is too big or too small; but since this is a FREEcycle list, all items must be 100% free.
Recognized by Pay It Forward Foundation and the author of the novel and screen play, Catherine-Ryan Hyde; Brevard Freecycle is featured on current projects of this wonderful concept.
TO START:
(1) Join the group nearest you.
Go to the Group Home Page and use the Join Group link there. Get a yahoo ID at that time, if you don't have one [required]...very easy.);
(By the way, when you register, sign-in or go to the Group Home Page, etc., you will notice that the host of the site, Yahoo!, places ads in various locations. This is our trade-off for the free hosting service. Don't fret, they are harmless...personally, I ignore them.)
(2) Simply check your email** (Or click on the link "READ Messages-Posts" on this page or see the Messages at the Group Homepage) to see what fellow members want to give away or seek; AND
(3) Click on "Post" to OFFER an item you
would otherwise "trash" or request something you seek (per basic Guideline that we send you when you join).
**TIP: If you do not want every post in your
email in-box, you can set your email group
preferences to DAILY DIGEST for one email a day with all of that day's posts. See the Email Tips in the links column for essential info.
Once you join, a Welcome email containing etiquette, guidelines and suggestions will be sent to you...these are very important.
Please read through these
messages prior to participating.

Our groups practice a concept to reduce landfill and share with other members of the community that may put these items to good use.
In the end you have the joy of taking home a new treasure, putting a smile on someone's face, and meeting others in your community.
These groups within Brevard Freecycle.org are the original Freecycle groups in this county.
We have disassociated ourlselves from our former network, in order to provide more community based interaction without corporate involvement.
There is a catch.
Everything Must Be Free And No Trades.
Our mission is to keep stuff from our bulging landfills by making the free exchange of items from hands that no longer want it, to hands that do.
We promote the reduction of clutter in the lives of our members, plus we make new friends in the process.
Reuse:
to repair, donate or remodel instead of discarding; and to buy used products
instead of new.
Frugal Simplicity:
Use it up, wear it out, make do, or do without
The ORIGINAL Melbourne and Brevard freecycle Groups (founded May 6th, 2004)
We are a Non Profit group based in Brevard County Florida. If you are not from Brevard County, please find a group listed above. If you run a site similar to ours that deals with the free transfer of items from one hand to the other, please see our Links page to submit your site for a Free listing there.

We would like to thank Scott Perkins for the kind use of text and graphics from his wonderful site based in Louisiana, www.freeuse.org

Our groups purpose has been described as somewhere between trash picking and the dump. We cut out the middle man. It's simple, you have a bed, you don't need it or use it anymore, but it still has life in it. Too good to throw it out, but these former treasures of yours are crowding your life and your space.
George Carlin spoke of a place to keep all of our stuff, and there lies the problem. We buy and buy, and year by year we have more and more stuff. What to do with all this? Keep it and drag it from area to area, or gift it away to a member of your community. It is easy, it works and it let's us do our part to keep these items away from our landfills.
It's fun, it's free, and it feels good. What more could you want?
All text on all pages of this site were written either by the Webmaster, Charlotte Hess or by Scott Perkins of Baton Rouge, LA. This site is in no way connected any longer with the Freecycle Network. We left their network in August of 2005 due to management changes, and our disagreement with current practices.
Our name, Brevard Freecycle has been ours since the inception of our groups on May 6, 2004. We were the first Freecycle groups in Brevard County Florida and were granted permission to use the name, which we continue to use to this day.
